Stephanie Mckay – recording artist

Stephanie Mckay is a Medford based recording artist, educator, and arts advocate whose artistic practice lies at the intersection of art, community, education and social justice. She has published four albums of original music and toured internationally as a solo artist, bandleader, and performer in over twenty-five countries and five continents. As a dancer she was a company member of the Jane Comfort Dance Company for seven years and a guest artist with Urban Bush Women. Born in New York City, Stephanie has a BFA in modern dance from the University of the Arts, in Philadelphia, PA and a M.Ed in Art, Community and Education from Lesley University in Cambridge, MA. Her music is inspired by the relationships, history and life experiences of the people in her community. Through observation, interviews and improvisation she composes and interprets stories through music, words, and movement. As an educator Stephanie is passionate about using integrated arts to promote self agency, critical thinking, and creative self-expression. In Massachusetts, she has worked with afterschool youth art organizations such as Zumix, Raw Art Works, and Citizen Schools. Stephanie loves to co-create with youth using integrated art strategies and aspires to create a culturally reflexive curriculum through which she can share her passion for arts education with others.
